Continued education and training is necessary for care givers to maintain and increase their understanding and knowledge of children and families. New York State regulations also require ongoing training. View New York State requirements at the Office of Children and Family Services website.
Upcoming child care provider training can be viewed in our Professional Development catalog found in our Documents and Printables section of this website. It would be helpful for providers to register three days in advance of training.
Through our Professional Development catalog, Child and Family Resources offers One 2 One Training and Individualized Training, educational workshops ,Child Development Associate, and all day conferences that meet these requirements. We can also assist in accessing Scholarship Information to pay for training and other education programs.
24/7 Online Shaken Baby Training
The New York State Office of Children and Family Services, and the Early Childhood Education and Training program now offers FREE 24/7 online e-learning courses. You can register anytime by visiting www.ecetp.pdp.albany.edu select "Sign Up for Early Childhood e-learning". This is a one-hour-web-based training. As you complete each 10-15 minute section, the application saves your progress and allows you up to 30 days to complete the entire course. This is a self-directed online "Preventing Shaken Baby" course. A certificate of completion is sent online to person's completing the course. 24/7 Online Mandated Reporter Training
The New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Bureau of Training now offers FREE 24/7 online Mandated Reporter Training in child abuse and neglect/maltreatment identification. You can register anytime by visiting www.nysmandatedreporter.org, selecting "Courses Offered" and then clicking to register for "Self-Directed Online Training." This 2-hour web-based training is fully narrated and interactive and features learning exercises customized for the Child Care profession. As you complete each 10-15 minute section, the application saves your progress and allows you up to 30 days to complete the entire course. The Self-Directed Online Mandated Reporter Training course meets the New York State Education Department’s mandatory requirements for Training in Child Abuse Identification and Reporting. A certificate of completion is sent online to person's completing the course. It is a credit for 2 hours of training on this topic.
New York State Training Requirements and Topic Areas…
According to New York State Child Care Regulations:
Operators, Program Directors, Employees and Assistants of:
- Registered Family Child Care Homes
- Licensed Group Family Child Care Homes
- Licensed Child Care Centers
- Registered School Age Child Care Programs
Must meet the following requirements:
- Complete 30 hours of training during your registration/license period within the nine required topic areas
- Family and Group Family Providers must also receive approved Health and Safety Training before being licensed or registered for the first time. This training may count towards the provider’s overall 30-hour training requirement.
- New Providers must complete a minimum of 15 of their training hours within the first six months of their first registration/license or employment period. For FDC/GFDC homes, the mandated Health & Safety Training may fulfill this requirement if taken while provider’s application is in-process
- Center and SACC staff working less than 20 hours per week may pro-rate training hour requirements as per regulations
- All training documentation must be kept on file in the provider’s home or center
CFR Training Registration Policies and Procedures
- Pre-Registration Is REQUIRED for all training sessions. It would be helpful if providers could register three days in advance of training.
- Please submit the SIGNED training registration form with payment prior to the class date.
- Phone registrations will be accepted. However, a signed registration form and payment must be received by CFR prior to the scheduled training date. Your seat will not be reserved until payment and form are received. Please mail payment and vouchers to Child and Family Resources, Inc., 41 Lewis St., Suite 103, Geneva, NY 14456.
- Providers seeking ITP or One-2-One training must sign up through Heather Fiero, Office Manager, Geneva Office: (315) 781-1491 ext. 201. All E.I.P. vouchers or payments must be received before training can begin.
- If applying for an EIP scholarship to cover costs of training, please submit a copy of your EIP application with your registration form.
- We cannot contact SUNY regarding EIP application status without a completed “Request for Release of Information” form giving our staff person written permission. This form can be found on the SUNY website.
- YOU must maintain contact with SUNY if you do not receive notification within 4 weeks from submission of application.
- A person may not register for another session until all past due fees are paid or we have received notification from SUNY of EIP funds. If you have extenuating circumstances, please contact Tammy Bursley, Professional Development Coordinator, Geneva, ext. 207.
- Classes will be canceled due to…Inclement weather …Trainer emergency- ONLY those participants who have registered for a training session will be notified of cancelations or changes
- CHILD CARE IS NOT PROVIDED AT TRAININGS. Children at training are most often disruptive to other learners and facilitators. Training topics can also be inappropriate for children. Please make the appropriate care arrangements.
- Child & Family Resources does not issue refunds or credit vouchers when participants do not show up at training unless there are extenuating circumstances. These will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. A refund or credit voucher will be issued when participants cancel their training registration at least three (3) business days prior to class. Credit vouchers have an expiration date of one year from the date issued to the provider.
