Are you pregnant or a parent of a newborn?  If so you might be eligible for the Healthy Families Program...

Having a child in today’s world is a big responsibility. It’s not always easy to know the “right” thing to do as a parent– who to turn to with a question or who to talk to when things seem overwhelming.  Healthy Families Ontario can help you. We understand that you are your child’s first and best teacher, and we want to help you be the best parent you can be.

We are a group of trained family workers who offer support and services to new moms and dads.

We have answers to your questions and connections in the community.

We are a program of Child & Family Resources, Inc., your local Child Care Resource and Referral Agency (CCRR) and Family Resource Center.

We work together with doctors, hospitals, child care centers, child development specialists and many others in the community who can answer questions about:

  • Basic infant care
  • Breast feeding and bottle feeding
  • How your baby learns and grows
  • Parent-child interaction
  • When to call the doctor

This program is free for your family.

  •  For all families of newborns the rewards and demands of parenthood are endless…
  • When a baby comes home, there are unanswered questions…

  • At times families feel a bit overwhelmed and alone…

  • These feelings are normal and shared by most parents of newborns…

Whatever the reasons, a Family Educator is available to provide encouragement and day-to-day problem solving through:

  • Listening
  • Recognizing and reinforcing the family’s strengths
  • Working with parents on their needs
  • Celebrating with the parents the uniqueness of their baby and the gift of parenting
  • Regular home visits
  • Assisting the parents in finding time for themselves and for their growth through education, employment, counseling, support groups or other positive steps
  • Referrals to medical and community agencies as needed

HEALTHY FAMILIES NEW YORK RECEIVES NATIONAL ACCREDITATION

Program meets national standards, ensuring excellent quality of care for New York’s families Rensselaer, NY, July 8, 2013 – The Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) today announced that the Healthy Families New York (HFNY) Home Visiting Program received for the third time in its history national accreditation by Healthy Families America (HFA), a program of Prevent Child Abuse America. HFNY, an evidence-based program that provides comprehensive services for families in high-risk communities, received a five-year multi-site accreditation from HFA, a national program model designed to help expectant and new parents get their children off to a healthy start. The rigorous accreditation process began in March of 2012, and as a result, HFNY will now have access to new training, technical assistance, and materials, and can be considered for joint grant and research opportunities. In addition, HFNY, which benefits 5,600 families yearly, will follow national standards to ensure the highest quality of care for families and children in New York State. This accreditation guarantees that HFNY can continue to provide outstanding services in accordance with the national HFA model, and fosters positive outcomes for the families served by HFNY. Services include educating families on parenting and child development, connecting them with needed service including medical providers, and assessing children for developmental delays. HFNY is an OCFS initiative, in partnership with Prevent Child Abuse New York and the Center for Human Services Research at SUNY Albany. The goals of HFNY include preventing child abuse and neglect; promoting positive parenting and parent-child interaction; ensuring optimal prenatal care, health and development; and enhancing family self-sufficiency. OCFS currently funds 36 HFNY programs in communities throughout the state.

A Randomized Trial of Healthy Families NY!

In 2000, New York State (NYS) initiated an RCT to test the effectiveness of HFNY in preventing child maltreatment and promoting the child’s de-velopment.
